I'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 25.04, but it consistently throws an error. I've attached a screenshot showing the stage it reaches before freezing.
I've tried a few things:
- Verified the ISO (multiple times, on multiple downloads)
- Run chckdsk on both the USB drive and the SSD I'm trying to install to - no errors.
- Tried installing from different USB drives.
- Tried various partition settings, from erasing the disk and letting the installer choose what to do, to manually setting boot/swap/root/home partions. No change in the error.
- Installed Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 from the same USB onto the same SSD. Installed without any issues.
Anybody got any ideas what might be causing the errors?
EDIT: Fair point about some of this information - I should have put it in the post in the first place:
- This is installing to hardware, not a VM.
- I've downloaded the latest version of the 25.04 ISO multiple times, and the SHA256 hash has matched every time.
- I've used both Rufus 4.7 and Ventoy 1.1.05 to burn the ISO to both USB drives at various attempts. Running in Windows 11 24H2.
Second EDIT: Memtest has found a load of errors, which is surprising since nothing else has been complaining or crashing, only the Ubuntu 25.04 installer. Luckily, it's a weekend and there's bound to be a sale on. I'll buy some new RAM tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.
Final EDIT: New RAM bought and 25.04 now installs without an issue. Thanks for the pointers, everyone.
