Cambridge United is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Cambridge, Ontario that competes in the men's and women's division of League2 Ontario. They were founded in 1973, and their home field is Fountain Street Soccer field.

Cambridge Youth Soccer (officially operating as Cambridge United) was established in 1973 following the amalgamation of several soccer organizations serving Cambridge, Ontario. The club functions as a not-for-profit governed by a volunteer board, offering community soccer for youth from U3 through youth competitive teams.^[1]

In 2018, Cambridge Youth Soccer was awarded a license to participate in Ontario Soccer’s Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) for U13–U17 age groups—a province-wide, standards-based high-performance program. This marked their formal entry into the elite Talented Pathway model.^[2][3]

In 2022, the club officially launched the Cambridge United Academy (U13–U21) as a complementary high-performance stream alongside OPDL. The Academy provides year-round training, certified coaching, in-class learning, tactical analysis, strength & conditioning, and post-secondary pathway support.^[4]

A multi-field training complex broke ground in 2022 and opened in 2024. The facility now comprises seven full-size pitches (originally planned as 12), developed in partnership with Conestoga College to serve both Cambridge United and broader community needs.^[5]

Starting around 2021, Cambridge United began fielding men’s and women’s U21 teams in League1 Ontario Reserve Divisions. In 2023, the men’s team finished as runners-up in the Southwest Conference and the women placed third. In 2024, both teams remained competitive ahead of the club’s application for semi-professional status.

On 18 September 2024, League1 Ontario officially confirmed that Cambridge United had received licences to field both men’s and women’s senior teams in League2 Ontario, part of the League1 pro-am pyramid tier structure. Their inaugural season commenced in 2025.^[6]

In the 2025 League1 Cup, Cambridge United’s men’s team earned a notable 3–0 upset victory over Alliance United FC, a Championship-tier side, to advance to the second round. Meanwhile, the women’s team secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Oakville SC to progress to the quarterfinals. The men’s League2 home opener occurred on 27 April 2025 against Waterloo United B., with Cambridge winning 2–1.^[7][8]
