So I can't see my thumbnails anymore. I tried various solutions found here and none of them worked. But something I did caused all my files to appear on my desktop. They're not shortcuts because if I delete them the file also disappears in Nautilus. How can I change this back to where I only see the files if I go into file manager?

Also I installed Dolphin through the app center right before this happened.

I deleted Nautilus and the files were still on Desktop. I assume Dolphin is causing the problem now.

Delete ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs, then log out and then back in. I assume that the file will then be recreated with the default settings, and then the desktop will, as expected, only show files in your ~/Desktop folder.

Files that appear on the desktop, if they are not symbolic links (created with ln -s) are files that should be located in the corresponding directories.

Usually in ~/Documents, ~/Videos, ~/Images, etc.

Move the files to the corresponding directories.

And in your desktop directory, ~/Desktop, if necessary faster access, create symbolic links to those files.
